Seville day 1: We got in early and took a stroll around one of their sprawling parks with lush greenery (much of it brought from the Americas during the age of exploration). Later, we went to the town plaza and took a look at the art and architecture.

We saw a flamenco show that we had a hard time staying awake for because of our early flights that morning…but it was still an amazing experience. We couldn’t take pictures during the show, but some photographers do flamenco wear photos. The first photo is a girl we saw dressing up for photos wearing authentic flamenco outfit.

After, we got coffee and desert at a traditional style cafe where people both order and sit at the bar.

Paris day 3: We spent most of the day abusing our

Paris day 3: We spent most of the day abusing our feet in the Louvre. We did a tour which I HIGHLY recommend because it was so overwhelming and we got lost the instant we were on our own. And my feet still haven’t recovered.

We did a quick stop at the arc de Triumph and a nice cafe gourmant to recuperate.

Paris day 2 ❄️❄️❄️ It was cold as hel

Paris day 2 ❄️❄️❄️

It was cold as hell. There were huge snowflakes that melted immediately and gusting brutal winds. But we braved the cold and walked toward the Eiffel Tower for our dinner river cruise. It was not great visibility but we had a good view of the Eiffel Tower and a few important places. We had a sea bass, duck fois gras, veal shank, and a chocolate popcorn dessert.

On the way back we found the Rex theater and happened to be just enough time for us to get into a showing of Gladiator 2 in English with French subtitles. They have a little bar at the back of each theater with refreshments and I was able to get an espresso for during the movie (the US needs to get on this).

Steven had to get new shoes partway through the day because his feet were soaked and we were lucky enough to find him some comfortable warm (waterproof) boots. I felt ok except for my face and hands but it was enough to make me extra glad we don’t experience this in Texas. Though I was told by a Parisian that this weather was unusual for them too. Lucky us 😂 at least it was beautiful.

Paris day 1. This was several days ago but I haven’t had internet. Paris was COLD when we were there and I really didn’t think I’d be glad our visit would be so short but after 3 days in the cold we were ready to be out lol.

Our first day we got in at 6am, tried to figure out how to get internet, checked into our Airbnb, walked to Shakespeare and Co, had some crepes, and a few desserts.

Shakespeare and Co was super crowded and not great for book browsing but it was gorgeous and had this cool upstairs study area. You’re technically not allowed to take pictures upstairs but I took this one before I realized…and technically it’s of downstairs from above lol.

I bought a signed copy of Blackouts by Justin Torres. I really enjoyed We The Animals and am excited to read this.

NEW BLOG! I am honestly exhausted looking for ways to be more active in environmental and feminist activism. I’m sure some of you are too. It’s overwhelming, but here’s a place to start: Books.

Books can share so many experiences and issues from diverse people around the world. I’m spending the rest of my year gathering my mindfulness and intentions, and most of all, listening. Where am I needed?

To start I’d like to share more here about my environmental journey and more feminist critiques. Starting with these books I have read and learned from. Let’s grab some nonfiction!

PSA: If you’re not going to use these more than

PSA: If you’re not going to use these more than once, DON’T take them home. While I appreciate the sentiment of SBs red cups, so few people actually use them in place of getting a paper cup when they order that they’re simply just wasteful for a majority of people.

Think about it this way. Maybe you remember to use and bring it to SB five times this season. You save .50 cents. Then it gets shuffled around the back of the cabinet, to the thrift store, to the trash. The five cups you saved would take 20 years to decompose. The next plastic red cups will take about 450 years to decompose. How many regular cups does it take to match the same wastefulness?

Just because you did not pay for something doesn’t mean you’re not contributing to plastics production. The more people who take these cups, the more SB will produce the next year. When you go to a conference and there’s free swag, the companies will produce more to hand out at the next event. Be mindful of what you will actually use, not just what you think you want. 💚🌿

I am not surprised but gutted all the same. These are the moments we must regroup our strength and fight more than ever. If the idiots want to put their heads in the sand so they feel safer, we must act all the louder. We must look after each other. And we must find ways to make things better when our leadership will not.

If you didn’t read Shirley Jackson, did you even have a spooky season?

This was honestly not my most favorite of hers but it is still rich with subtext and uncomfortable neighborhood vibes. It took a while to keep all the characters straight but I still got sucked in, confused or not. I loved that this novel leans heavily on the neighborhood children’s perspective, something a lot of authors would dismiss as unimportant. I wouldn’t classify this as horror but it definitely gives ~unsettling ~ and was a perfect fall read.
